What’s the common link between jazz fusion and a professional dreamer?
Photography has always had a huge impact on us, as a source of inspiration and as a tool: to make our products and collections shining on the WWW. But not all the captured stories need to be shiny and coated. We met Karim El Maktafi six years ago, as a photography student, and then later, a few months ago, at his first solo exhibition. Karim is an Italian-Moroccan photographer, focused on documentary and portraiture. His style is contemporary yet respectful, not to be labeled or confused with the many “trendy” street and urban photographers flooding the net. Karim, we are glad to welcome you to the High Five Club, our weekly column about the faces, stories and projects that make this little place unique.
Ciao Karim, how would you describe yourself in ten words?
Photographer, storyteller, portraitist, professional dreamer, instrumental music lover.
Three things that inspire you?
Jazz fusion music, travelling, nature.
A place everybody should visit?
Paradise Valley in Morocco.
Two things you love to do in your spare time?
Going to concerts, visiting art exhibitions.
One achievement you will always remember?
The firsts good feedbacks by people I admire at photographic festivals. I was them making me continue with my work.
We asked Karim to picture five objects and to describe himself through them. First he got back to us saying that he’s not a big fan of objects. But that’s the thing about this little game, it is not about commodities, or material things for their own sake. It is about realising what tools we consider fundamental as people and creatives. So thanks to Karim, you did an amazing job 😉
My first analogic camera, a Cosina CT-1A.
Home and bike’s keys, always have been with me. Always hanged on my jeans.
My Sennheiser Momentum headphones, the best reality’s escaping tool while working.
My Moleskine, to remind me of almost everything.
Tajine, my favorite Moroccan dish.
Thanks Karim for joining the High Five club, it was a quick and inspiring chat. Ciao!
