Power to the Eighties children’s fantasy.

Well, take a little of nostalgia for objects of the past, the irony of a cute girl and add a lot  of drawings, paper sculptures and embroidered objects. Giuditta Aresi is a mix of all of this, and much more. Illustrator and artist from Bergamo,  she is the new entry of Design Stories, the columns that brings on your screens the work, habits and inspirations of our favorite artists. We met Giuditta a few days ago in her home/studio, talking about creativity and much more, and an incredible collaboration came out of it. Curious?

Ciao Giuditta, a few word about your for the friends of Uncovered?
I am Giuditta Aresi, I am from the real countryside near Bergamo, and I just landed in the city of Milano. I paint, draw, sculpt, embroider.

And when did you approach to art for the first time?
Quite recently I’d say, not more than 5 years.

You do have an atypical imaginary, it is the first thing we noticed when we stepped in your studio. A few words about this?
So nice of you, thanks! I would say it still is a work in progress, I am still evolving. I like objects and buy tons of them just because I am attracted by them. Sometimes they are the inspirations for the illustrations, sometimes not. Like the single – SINGLE! – toilet roll I bought a few days ago. I like to call them “my models“, the objects I didn’t have when I was a child, the same stuff that I can now buy for nothing (Carioca pens, water guns, real Adidas shoes, and so on). All this participated to build my imaginary. This is made by the tools we have in mind thinking about the 80s and 90s. The colors, the subjects, the words. Everything with a touch of irony. I hope you got the point 🙂

What’s your daily habit? In terms of inspiration also.
Mmm…I don’t have one, it really depends on what I have to do. I don’t like monotony and I try hard to make everyday different. That’s important to me!!! Sometimes it helps taking care of the greenery, sometimes meeting people, sharing ideas, listening music, running errands. For me it’s more about how you approach daily tasks than actually the tasks. We all go to supermarkets daily, but then it happens that time you notice that exact DAS package that blows ideas in your mind!

How’s your workspace made?
You’ve seen my desk, that I actually never use for work. I just fill it with objects, books and tools I am inspired by. Workspaces change depending on what I need to do. The big table in the living room, the wall in the porch, friend’s places.

In your works we see illustration, sculpture, embroidery. Would you like to talk about it? Do you have any favorite techniques?
I wouldn’t say so, as changing techniques helps me not to block myself (see that monotony of which I spoke earlier); then I like the fact that every job can find its best expression through different techniques and means. I still consider myself in training, willing to experiment, try new techniques. I have not yet found “mine” and I hope I’ll never find it, so to always have movement in my path.

Last but not least, what have you prepared for Wood’d?
Some polite bags!
