What’s the chillwave, Fabio Nirta?
Chillwave, hello stranger! We were trying to acculturate ourselves about the vaporwave phenomenon, which has been taking the music world by storm for a few years now. We wanted to find out more about it for our Uncovered friends. We wanted to talk about it in a proper way, and we’ve thought to bring you a couple of very serious comments from our friend Fabio Nirta. For those who don’t know him, he’s a deejay, promoter, music producer, manager, or “just a dickhead with some attitude”, if you ask him. And one of the very first people worldwide to get back to the essence of chillwave and digging through it, since 2007. We’ve asked a friend who knows so many things. And then, nothing … judge by yourself …
U: Hey, Nirta…
N: .com
U: could you please suggest a few vaporwave original tunes please?
…something like Lucio Dalla’s Washington, for instance…could you please help me?
N: nope, no originals are available, I mean…vaporwave music is made of loops of other songs previously released, just slowed and toned down…on the opposite, if you’re looking for some chillwave, we can talk about it…
U: yeah, let’s talk about chillwave then, that’s how they call it now, but finally it’s just Eighties’ pop music, very well produced, the genre’s is new wave’s son, somehow, just like “Washington”, isn’t it?…
N: …or “Eyes without a Face” from Billy Idol…
U: of course, I know this one!
N:…and I can think also of a tune from Style Council, for instance…
N: …or “Doot Doot” from Freur, the same band that afterwards became Underworld…
U:…uh, yeah, I like it…but I was interested in some italian tunes…
by the way, in this category we could also put Phil Collins, frankly, uhn…
N: nope, no Phil Collins please…by the way, italian stuff…samples…only italian artists have been sampled to create the infamous vaporwave…they’re all italians…that’s the rule…just compare Washed Out and Gary Low…slow down that tune “You Are in Danger” from Gary Low and…here you go…
U: Ooookay…anything else?
N: Neon Indian, I have to suggest to find out as much as you can about Neon Indian, that’s all I have to say…as far as the rest, just google “chillwave samples“, or “italo samples“…you find them all…
U: love you, my man, grazie mille…
