Waxlife and the infinite ways of contemporary sound

Waxlife mixes some electronic music for Wood'd Uncovered

Waxlife leads us in his universe, with a mixtape to be played loud.

Waxlife, aka Simone Lanza, is a gentleman frequently entertaining and making tired bodies move in some of the weirdest Milan’s club. We’ve assisted to many deejay of his sets, and, when we’ve asked him to join the Wood’d Vibes club, his response has been: “Wow, super!”. Two days later we had a thrilling 60 minutes mixtape in our inbox. We played it loud and non-stop. Take it as a Friday afternoon office gift, mates. Let’s play it, Simone!

Ciao Waxlife, what’s your real name and who are you?
Hello guys! My name is Simone, stage name Waxlife. I am a DJ, producer and sound designer. I’d say I love to work music 360°, and make my greatest passion my work.

How did you start with music?
I think I was about 8 when I decided to be a DJ, even if I had no idea about what a DJ really was…In the meantime dad started me playing classic guitar. Not that later I dropped it to start playing contrabass, which it was dropped again in order to study electronic music at conservatory school. Obviously, I’m not able to play any traditional instrument and I didn’t finish school. But you know how it is, technology always let you do what you love, somehow. And I’m still studying music, again.

What are the main influences on your sound?
Since I’m first of all a DJ, I have a wide background. I am an enthusiast about everything’s music, as I’ve listened to almost everything, from classic to punk, from jazz to techno. I’m not able to say which one has influenced me more, but I can tell you a few years, around the end of the ’90s. I still remember it as the most beautiful and inspiring one.

What are you currently listening to?
Lately I’ve been listening a lot of House, which is the one I play more, together with Jazz, Black Music, R&B and Soul. And I still love Pop, which sounds strange, but it’s still underrated in some groups of people. I think we also need that in life 🙂
In this mixtape I’ve selected a wide range of music, it’s not granted but neither too niche, in order to be an easy listening for everyone.

Where you draw your main inspirations for this mix?
Every time I design something, either if it’s a mixtape, a runway show or a dj set, I’m always inspired by the moment and the people that are going to enjoy it. I always follow my taste, but I also keep an eye on the people that will listen. That’s what I think a DJ must do.

What you have prepared for Wood’d?
A mixtape made of 100% indie, eclectic and contemporary music I respect. This is a mix for everyone, and I hope it will bring new indie music to people, with a great focus on Italian music (Lyves’ singer is Italian, as well as The Dining Rooms). Hope you’ll like it!
